Terrier Tuesday!!

OOOHH!!! I love this weeks Terrier Tuesday!!
In the past 3 years I have never used my fire place.
I honestly don't even know how to turn it on(it's propane)!!
So a few months ago, I asked Ryan to gut it out for me...
And since Alabama likes to burrow in everything, this personal little cave was a perfect little haven.
What do you think??
Looks pretty cozy!

Diamond Saturday

I have this amazing, low, long 1950's that I got off of craigslist about a year ago. I got it from some people who had ruined it with a metallic turquoise paint and a thick layer of polyurethane that oozed over the edges... Last spring when I first got this table, I spent a lot of time scraping layer after layer of paint and plastic and eventually sort of burnt myself out, and ended up putting the table out of site.  The other day I started chipping away at it again and with-in the past 2 days I have accomplished a lot!
I can't find my original photo of the table right now... but I thought I would just show a little progress that I have made!
These photos are how the diamonds looked when I stopped last spring, after 3 coats of paint stripper, and an electric sander.  Now, I have gone back with some little tiny tools, and loads of sand paper and REALLY cleaned this little baby up! I still have a ton of work to do... but I am really happy with it so far :)

Comfort foods.

I have been trying to find some comfort lately, its been a rough couple of days for me, and this little quest to occupy my mind has been a great distraction!

(I wrote out a long explanation about everything that is going on, but realized how much wining it was, and decided to not have a pitty party.)

Lately I have found a lot of comfort in the kitchen.
I have been obsessed with baking.
Something about mixing ingredients, and making a huge mess is therapeutic.

I usually don't eat what I make... I don't have a sweet tooth at all, and after a half of a cookie, I am done.
Anyone have any requests?

I have also been baking everything in my heart shaped pans... it may take a little longer, but it makes me really happy.

this is just a simple recipe from online...

It's been a rough, long day for me today,

A new leader at my work is wearing me out, and school was brutal.

ANYWAY-time for the cutest pup-pictures you have seen all day.

Homemade Flour Tortillas

I had the day off today, and after cleaning, homework, garage sales, and taking Alabama for an hour walk, it was only 12pm.
I didn't quite know what to do with myself, so I decided to try some new recipes I have been dying to try.
I love cooking, and being in the kitchen, and I would LOVE to share some of my creations with you...
But I have a problem doing so because my place have awful lighting, and my entire kitchen is Yellow.
Yes, yellow.
The refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, all of the counters, are Yellow.
Well...
Technically it's called 'Harvest Gold.'
My place was built in the 70s, and my landlord has yet to remodel.
Anyway-this is a problem because anything I photograph in the kitchen ends up looking like a yellow blur.
But today-I was successful with some photos!
So here goes!

Flour Tortillas
2 3/4 cups of flour
5 tblespoons of vegetable oil
3/4 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup very warm water

Add the salt and hot water and set the side for the salt to dissolve.
Mix the flour, and oil with your fingers until it is consistently mixed in, once you have done this, add the salty water, and mix in immediately until you have a big doughy ball.
This mixture makes about 12 small tortillas, so make 12 balls of dough.
Or make less balls with more dough to make bigger tortillas.
Cover and set aside for about 30 minutes.

Turn on a skillet pan to medium heat and let it heat up completely.
While you are waiting, LIGHTLY flour a rolling surface and start to roll out your dough's into circles.
Toss your rolled out dough onto your UN-GREASED skillet.
There is enough oil in the dough, that these babies don't stick at all.

Once it bubbles up a little, or get a few brown spots, flip it over!
This doesn't take more than a few minutes for each tortilla.

Set aside, and stack 'em up!
These wont stick to each other, and aren't greasy, so feel free to just put them all in one pile.

Add some of your favorite ingredients and ENJOY!
Like avocado, a little salsa, lemon juice and cilantro!
YUMMM!!

Lovey Dovey Valentiney Terrier Tuesday

Get ready for an extra special Lovey Dovey Valentiney Terrier Tuesday!
I made this little paper heart necklace for Alabama, and left it on her all day.
She didn't seem to mind, or even notice it.

Plus-it made me really happy.

I hope everyone had as such a nice Valentines day as I did!
Since Ryan and I both had to work today, and didn't want to get crazy with dinner reservations, or racing to the movies, we just stayed in.
I made tacos, and a Lemon Cream Pie.
Sometimes, good food can make such a difference.

Sweet and Simple Valentines DIY

This morning I realized that I haven't done anything for Valentines day, and while most of the time, I don't really decorate for it, I thought I needed a little something to show my excited for the holiday!
I found this long branch-vine and snatched it up because it was super twisty, and I love using twigs for crafty things like mason-jar light's, and twiggy-candle's, so I thought this one would be perfect.

Supplies:
Paint
Pink+Red paper, or thick painted paper
String
Hole punch
A long twig, or branch
Scissors
 X-acto knife

I lightly sanded my branch, mostly to get all of the dirt off...
Paint the branch whichever color you like... I wanted to use a bubble-gum pink.
Since I didn't have any butcher-paper, I painted some thick paper different shades of reds and pinks.

After everything was dry, I drew hearts on the backs and cut them out.
When you have cut out the hearts, cut out letters with the X-acto knife.

I traced them with gold, for a little extra.
Punch out holes on each heart, string the string through the holes and loop around the branch.

Voila!

I hope you all have a great Valentines Day!

Terrier Tuesday!!

Hey guys! Today is Terrier Tuesday!!
I had this idea for a photo collage of Alabama, and this is a practice for it....
I'm obsessed.
Post a link to your Terrier Tuesday & make sure to grab my button!

Update on me...

I decided to go back to school this semester... even though I graduated a little more than a year ago, I recently decided that I wanted to get my masters in a different area....
So here I am again in a Community College trying to scoop up the extra classes I need to get into my program.
You see... I have a degree in Studio Art, specializing in Ceramics, and Sculpture.
While in school I thought that when I graduated that I would end up teaching, but I have sort of.... well.... changed my mind.
My current goal is get my masters in Marriage and Family Counseling with a specialization in Art Therapy.
I am pretty excited about it... I am just hoping to do well enough to get into the school!!

Art therapy is an amazing way of therapy that uses the process of art making as primary communication, instead of talking...
I think a lot of people use art therapy every day with out even realizing it! Have you ever done your makeup, or decorated your room, or done something creative and afterword just felt...lighter?
That is art therapy at it's simplest form.

I love this illustration
